People download videos for lots of good reasons: watching offline, archiving their own uploads, collecting references or sharing with a friend. Reposting someone else's video publicly is different: the video belongs to its creator, and most platforms treat unauthorised reposts as copyright infringement.

1. Ask First

The simplest, safest route is a quick message: "Love this video, can I share it on my page with credit?" Many creators say yes, because it brings them new followers. Keep the reply, in case anyone asks later.

2. Credit Clearly, Not in Small Print

  • Tag the creator's account in the caption: "🎥 by @username".
  • Mention them in the first line, not buried after the hashtags.
  • If the platform allows it, add a collaborator or tag them on the video itself.
  • Never present someone else's video as your own work.

3. Use the Platform's Own Remix Tools When You Can

TikTok's Duet and Stitch, Instagram's Remix and YouTube's Shorts remix features let you react to or build on a video while the original creator stays linked and credited automatically. For reaction content, these are usually the better choice than a re-upload.

4. Add Your Own Value

A compilation with commentary, a tutorial that explains a technique, or a review adds something new. A straight re-upload doesn't, and it's more likely to be removed or to hurt your account.

When Downloading Is Clearly Fine

  • Your own videos, for example to repost them on another app
  • Watching offline, privately
  • Saving references for your own learning or mood boards
  • Videos the creator has given you permission to use

Clipzy saves videos without the watermark so your own clips look clean when you move them between apps. When the video isn't yours, add the credit yourself, in the caption and ideally on screen.

What About Music?

Songs in videos are usually licensed by the platform for use inside that platform. When you take a video elsewhere, the music license may not come with it. Use each app's own sound library when you repost.
